The Waters of Chapala

by David Krug

lake chapalaHave you ever wondered why the color blue is commonly associated with feelings of peace and tranquility? Or why it physically soothes the mind and body? For those who make concerted efforts to travel once a year, blue represents those places that represent a kind of relaxation that comes with connecting to the place you’re in. A common retreat for those who seek this state of being would be a scenic body of water. One such place is Lake Chapala in Mexico.

Folks there say the waters of Chapala change color. Staring mostly at hues of blue is a way one would imagine spending a satisfying week of vacation. More than that, it is a place where one could possibly consider living and settling down. Aside from its beauty and splendor, Lake Chapala has a line-up of activities enough to soothe tired spirits and bring you back to life.

True to the Mexican culture, and for those who look forward to a periodic burst of song and music, Lake Chapala witnesses yearly folkloric dance presentations and jazz concerts. There are trips to the ruins, swim escapades in the cool waters, golf sessions in nearby courses. It’s hard to imagine that this now lively place was once a simple fishing lake with only a few inhabitants.

Mostly though, for those who want nothing more than to lie back and listen to the sound of water, Lake Chapala is haven to the weary and to those searching for a new place to live and grow.
