The Perfect Vista of Retirement

by David Krug

When people hear about retiring to Mexico, images of the perfect retirement fantasy start flashing before their eyes. For many, the idea of playing a round after round of golf every morning, lazy siestas in the afternoon, and cocktails at sunset is enough to quicken the pace of worn out hearts. Some people dream of sitting in a shady spot reading their favorite, momentarily forgotten, books. And for some, it’s the image of lounging on a vividly painted terrace overlooking a tropical beach, or sunning while fishing on some small fishing boat, that is the clincher.

And it is true that one can find all of this in Mexico. Golf, tennis, fishing, and other relaxations are definitely part of the new lifestyle. This need not be the only thing that one does however. People who have spent their lives working with intensity, creativity, and dedication do not suddenly lose those traits the day they retire. For those who still want to be busy, the opportunity to do so many other things is also there. One can sell real estate, or buy property and use this as additional income. One can even take up a craft like painting or photography. The beautiful landscapes on Mexico are ripe for budding artists, even those who take up this hobby later in life. And then there are the activities of hiking, hanging out in the beach, and learning Spanish that never lose their charm.

Whatever your idea of retirement, you will surely find one or more vistas in Mexico to fit this dream.
