Moving anywhere is no small task. Transporting your worldly possessions into Mexico, your choice of new home, is both an art and a science, even more so if you intend to do so on your own… truck and all. One can look at this task as both an adventure and a challenge. No matter what your state of mind is when moving or wherever you’re moving from, it is important to remember the essential things when moving.
1. If you’re moving by car or truck, make sure your vehicle can make the distance.
2. Make sure to list household contents in both Spanish and English. It will do no one any good to have missing furniture or goods.
3. Make sure you make detailed lists of all that you are moving for your reference but that you label your boxes in a way that will be accurate and yet fast.
4. Make sure you only bring what you need. Remember you can find most things in Mexico, so keep only those with sentimental value or those that will be more expensive to purchase in your new home.
5. If you’re driving, don’t drive after dark, eat well, get some sleep, and have company.
6. If you’re flying, do the same. Eat well, get some sleep, make sure you have someone to meet you when you arrive.
Essentially, moving to Mexico is much like moving to another house down the street, except in wider scale. Of course, make sure all your papers are in order. Other than that, enjoy the start of a new chapter in your life!
